Symi Town, Greece: Charming Place for Sailors

Symi Town is a great place for sailors to spend a night or more. The island (also called Symi) is part of the Dodecanese, is about 41 km from the Island of Rhodos (Greece) and very closed to the Southwest Coast of Turkey (Mugla Province).

Some say, that Symi has the most beautiful harbor in Greece: the neo-classical and colorful houses rise from both side of the harbor up the steep slope. The top town is called «Chorio» which means village, the lower town is called «Yialos».

Don’t miss some sightseeing from Chorio: there are spectacular views over the harbor and many churches to visit.

Sailors note:

• Symi is a port of entry (in/out)
• The harbor is very busy during high-season: don’t arrive too late 
• Head towards the ferries when entering the harbor
• Harbor and entry fee are around 25 Euro
• Winds: The summer ist dominated by the «Meltemi». Usually it is a sailing breeze of 4-5 beaufort in the mornings, building up to 5-6 in the afternoon.
• You can moor either on the south or the north side of the harbor. If you do not mind the music form all the bars the south pier is very nice. If you prefer a more quiet place, try the north side of the harbor.
